Me too! I got sick and tired of paying top dollar for fresh produce that had no flavor. It made me think there was nothing nutritious about it.
That's when I decided to grow my own veggies and fruits. I wanted to eat healthier, lose a little weight and save money.
And you can too!
I started raising my own vegetables in my 20's in a traditional inground garden. I loved working in the dirt, sowing my seeds and watching in amazement the plants growing and producing.
I moved mutlitple times and wasn't always able to grow my own food. I lived in apartments, townhomes and in places where the sun never landed on my yard.
About 19 years ago we moved out of the city onto some acreage. I was so excited to be able to start a garden again. I picked my location and created a fairly large garden. I planted and watered and weeded, waiting so anxiously for the fruits of my labor to ripen.
But Mother Nature had a different idea. I had never lived out of the city before, so I wasn't used to all the wildlife.
One morning I went out with excitement believing that some crops would be ready for the picking. I was totally shocked at what I found.
Deer had come through like a buzz saw and taken all my green beans down to nubs. Racoons had sliced open my cantelope and scooped out the delicous melon like ice cream. My strawberries were demolished.
I sat and cried.
